"Rabbit-Proof Fence" Aug. 3 library discussion

Visit Novel Destinations through Bluffton Public Library's next monthly book discussion, which will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Read a true story about one of the greatest escapes of all time in Doris Pilkington's Rabbit-Proof Fence. This novel whisks readers off to aboriginal Australia. The book discussion will be held at Common Grounds Coffeehouse & Caf'e in Bluffton.

Japanese Tanabata star festival celebrated in library's summer reading program

Bluffton youngsters in the Bluffton Public Library summer reading program celebrated the Japanese "Tanabata" star festival on July 13. In Japan, the event is July 7, according to Teri Sato, who helped coordinate the event at the library.

During "Tanabata" children will write wishes on strips of colorful papers and hang them on bamboo trees, which are to be put outside at night under the stars so the stars will make the wishes come true.

Oscar Velasquez offers third drawing, painting course at library

Local artist Oscar Velasquez will offer a third drawing and painting course at Bluffton Public Library for youth and adults.

Youth classes (grade school through junior high) will meet at the library on Tuesdays for five weeks from 6-8 p.m., beginning July 19. Adult classes will meet at the library for five weeks on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m., beginning July 21. No prior experience is necessary.

Bluffton Public Library has flyer for local history and genealogy material

The Bluffton Public Library has made a flyer available to persons interested in local history and genealogy material. The flyer lists all materials housed in the Shannon Room, which are non-circulating. Persons with questions should ask the library staff.

The sources include print, microfilm, vertical and Internet sources.
