Dulle and Reineke presented with S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club scholorships

The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club of Bluffton presented its annual “Service to Humanity” scholarship awards at the Bluffton High School 33rd Annual Awards Program on May 15. 

This year this organization was again able to give two $750 scholarships. 

Winners of these scholarships were seniors Megan Dulle and Delaney Reineke, each of whom was chosen by virtue of her past, current, and expected future commitment to serving others.

Area students receive BVHS nursing scholarships

The Blanchard Valley Health Foundation has awarded six area students nursing scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Gabrielle Evans has received the $500 Phyllis Zimber Endowed Scholarship, which was offered to any graduating high school student or adult pursuing a degree in nursing with a special interest in obstetrics. Evans is a student at Case Western Reserve University and is completing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Bluffton Public Library holds QR code Downtown Treasure Hunt

Noticed QR codes popping up around town? The Bluffton Public Library is holding a QR Code Downtown Treasure Hunt in several stores in Bluffton.

To participate, you need a mobile device that can run a free QR Code Reader app. Scan the codes at each location to reveal the secret words required to fill in the contest entry form. The treasure to be awarded will be revealed in one of the codes along the way. No WiFi or cell phone signal is needed.

Luther Shetler opened Maple Crest's 2013 fishing derby by blowing a conch shell. He closed the event by blowing a shofar horn. For all the derby details, click here.

Lots of fish story created from this year's Maple Crest fishing derby

Despite the overcast day, the sunshine finally came and over 200 people came to Maple Crest on June 6 for its annual fishing derby.

It was a great time of fun, food and fellowship for Maple Crest residents and their families as well as Maple Crest staff and their families. Aaron Siders, husband of Maple Crest's Joy Siders, caught the biggest fish this year - a catfish that was 23 inches long.

The prize for the smallest fish this year went to two people, Lizzie Helser and Stas Maksimov, who tied with each catching a 4 inch fish.

It's Bluffton's largest silent auction of the year - here's the list of items

The Bluffton Relay for Life is Friday and Saturday, June 21-22 at Bluffton University Salzman Stadium. The events begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, and conclude at noon on Saturday.

One of the activities on Friday is a silent auction that begins at 6 p.m. with the bidding closing at 10 p.m. Winning bidders may pick up their items at that time. More details on the auction are below the list of auction items.
