Motter Metro Park plans build excitement for what is to come

Want a peek into the future of the Motter Metro Park? At Tuesday's public meeting with town officials and interested residents, Patrick J. Beam of Bassett Associates shared several detailed information panels that not only mapped the park as it is now but as it is envisioned into the future. 

And after searching for 25 years for land suitable for a park in this area, it's more than just the Johnny Appleseed Park District that's excited about the plans.

Proposed for Motter Metro Park

Here’s an architect’s rendering of a proposal for Bluffton’s Motter Metro Park.  This view shows the Riley Creek flood plain from a proposed over look at the park. On Tuesday village officials and interested citizens received an update on the park from the staff of the Johnny Appleseed Park District. A second view with an additional architect’s rendering is in the story below.

Relay for Life teams hosting BBQ fundraiser

The Bluffton Relay for Life teams are hosting a BBQ chicken fundraiser on Friday, June 21 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.  

Dinners will include 1/2 chicken, baked potato, cole slaw and a roll.  Homemade desserts will be for sale at pickup.

Bluffton University students using Summer Discovery grants

Two Bluffton University students are exploring possible future careers this summer with the help of $1,500 Schultz Discovery Grants awarded through the university.

Kayla Craig, a sophomore from Tallmadge, Ohio, majoring in psychology and social work, is spending four weeks gathering experiences in those fields at mental health agencies and other sites, primarily in the Akron area.

Bluffton junior from Illinois getting closer look at ministry

A Bluffton University junior from Hopedale, Ill., is serving this summer in an Orrville, Ohio, church as part of Mennonite Church USA’s Ministry Inquiry Program (MIP).

Participating in the program at Orrville Mennonite Church is Ashley Litwiller, a youth ministries and recreation major at Bluffton. Her home church is Hopedale Mennonite.

Senior citizens honor Mary Koontz with June 21 retirement party

Thirty years, countless hours and more sewing and quilting projects then you can imagine. That’s an attempt to sum up Mary Koontz’s time at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

Koontz will be recognized for her 30 years of service to the Center during a 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, June 21 retirement tea. The event is open to the public.

Koontz started working at the Center in May of 1983. She was hired by Betty Cookson and continued at the center working with the next two directors Rosemary Meyers and Tonya Meyers.
