Over 463 participants tallied for 2025 events thanks to prize donors and program providers

MEDIA RELEASE__The Bluffton Public Library would like to thank Bluffton and the surrounding communities for supporting a successful 2025 Color Our World Summer Reading Program. 

The number of participants is up this year as 172 children, 43 teens, and 93 adults registered for the reading portion of the program.  There were 75 programs offered in June and July, with over 463 participants.

The monthly meeting of the Bluffton Ohio Historical Society will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at The Depot in Buckeye Park.

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School volleyball team outlasted visiting Wayne Trace in a five-set match on Monday, September 8.

The Pirate girls improved to 6-3 overall after the non-league win.

WT fell to 2-7 with the defeat.

Bluffton won the first two sets 25-12 and 25-19, then lost the next two games 23-25 and 14-25 to force a decisive final set.

The Pirates regrouped to pull out the fifth and final game, 15-11.

MEDIA RELEASE__Mornings with Mommy is a fun and easy way for you to enjoy activities with your infant through kindergarten age children (ages 0-6 years) and meet other moms. Dads, Grandmas, Grandpas, and Nannies are welcome, too!

These educational play-dates will begin on September 15 and 16 and continue on the first and third Monday and Tuesday of each month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera. A second session on Monday is from 11:00-12:00 a.m.

MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly breakfast meeting on Friday, September 12. The meeting will be held on the third floor of the Town Hall.

Newly appointed Bluffton University President, Dr. Alex Sider, will be sharing about his new role and the vision for Bluffton University looking forward.

John "Bill" W. McVetta, 85, passed away September 6, 2025 at his residence in Mt. Cory. Bill was born May 7, 1940 in Bluffton, Ohio to the late John and Lois June (Nonnamaker) McVetta. He married Rita K. Ranking on June 4, 1966, and they enjoyed fifty-two happy years together prior to her passing on March 2, 2019. 

Calvin “Cal” Vernon Oppermann, age 80, of Plymouth, WI, went home to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family on August 30, 2025 at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Center. 

He was born on September 16, 1944 in Bluffton, Ohio, a son of the late Vernon and Julia (Schroer) Oppermann. 

Calvin graduated from Bluffton High School in Ohio. He then went on to attend Lakeland College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. 

FROM BPL FACEBOOK__“Open Hours” is held Monday afternoons after school at 3:30 p.m. for students in 6th-12th grade.

Stop in to work on homework, puzzle or craft, play a game, or snag a book and read.

More activities to come - Snacks are always provided.

FROM FACEBOOK__Music at the Gazebo coordinator Erik Reneker has announced: "We have decided to cancel the remainder of the Gazebo Concerts for 2025. The cooler evenings have greatly reduced the number of spectators.

"We will begin looking for bands to play the Gazebo Concert series for 2026 in January. The series will be from June - August."

Two dates were remaining on the schedule, September 11 and 25.

The gazebo is located on the lawn of Bluffton Presbyterian Church, 112 N. Main St.
