VAN BUREN__The visiting Bluffton High School boys soccer team scored first but settled for a 1-1 tie at Van Buren in a non-league match at Tom Swaisgood Memorial Field on Tuesday evening, September 2.

Bluffton ran its season record to 2-2-2 with the knot.

Van Buren stands 2-3-1 after the tie.

Bluffton’s Isaiah Kohli tallied the first goal of the game in the 21st minute to give the Pirates a brief lead. Black Knight Colton Wilson tallied the equalizer in the 29th minute to make it 1-1.

BLUFFTON __The Bluffton High School girls tennis team fought off injuries and opposition to defeat visiting Defiance Ayersville 3-2 in a tough dual match on Tuesday, September 2.

The Pirates improved to 3-5 after the gutty win. They won two singles bouts and one doubles match to down the Pilots.

The Bluffton tandem of Peighton Bowers and Leah Hoffman won their seventh straight match at second doubles to improve to 7-1 this season.

ARLINGTON__The visiting Bluffton High School volleyball team shook off a slow start to defeat Arlington in a four-set, non-league match on Tuesday, September 2.

Bluffton dropped the first set yet rallied to win going away 16-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-8.

The Pirate girls improved to 4-3 overall with the road victory. Arlington fell to 3-3 overall after the defeat.

Kendall Stackhouse led the Pirates with 15 kills, and she added a pair of aces.

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School girls soccer team dominated visiting Crestview 9-0 in a Northwest Conference mismatch on Tuesday night, September 2 at Steinmetz Field.

The Pirate girls improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with the lopsided win.

The Knight girls fell to 2-3 and 0-1 in the NWC after the defeat.

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School boys golf team competed in an incredibly close Northwest Conference triangular match at the Bluffton Golf Course on Tuesday, September 2.

League-leading Lincolnview posted a team score of 172 to edge Allen East (173) by one stroke, and nip Bluffton (174) by two shots as well.

AE’s Brady Brooks was match medalist with a round of 37.

Bluffton fell to 9-7 and 4-4 in NWC play with the close losses.

State of the University address presented on August 26; Sider to address Bluffton chamber on September 12

FROM BLUFFTON.EDU__President Sider spoke on the state of Bluffton University aligning its strategic vision for the next year with four "Pillars of Purpose" - stability, trust, hope and compassion.

In his first State of the University address, Bluffton University President Dr. Alex Sider laid out a clear vision for the university’s future, centered on “Pillars of Purpose,” a one-year strategic campaign, that will guide Bluffton through a period of renewal, reinvestment and mission-driven growth.

SEPT 2 MEDIA RELEASE__Northwest Physical Therapy will host an educational presentation on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at its Bluffton clinic, located at 80 St. Rt. 103. 

The presentation will be led by therapists Beth and Hannah and will focus on the clinical application and benefits of several common physical therapy techniques. Topics will include manual therapy, cupping, kinesiology taping (KT taping), dry needling, and various therapeutic modalities.

Susan K. Sturgess-Meyers, age 60, of Ada, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at her home. 

She was born on May 9, 1965 in Lima, Ohio to Glenn and Sharon (Wahlie) Deringer.  Her father, Glenn survives in Bluffton and her mother, Sharon preceded her in death. On March 15, 2006 Susan married Brad Sturgess-Meyers and he survives in Ada. 

Also surviving is her son, Josh Sturgess-Meyers of Ada; brother, Robert (Carol) Deringer; and sister, Debbie (Jeff) Johnson. 

Susan worked for Whirlpool Corporation, Findlay as a safety coordinator.

Nineteen members of the Bluffton Cattle Club competed in the 2025 Allen County Fair. The group is directed by Alan Begg and Ashley Zeller.
