MEDIA RELEASE__Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative's Annual Meeting of Members premiered this week, coinciding with the cooperative’s celebration of 90 years of service to members in its rural north-central Ohio territory.

The meeting was held in a virtual online-only format, allowing members the opportunity to log in at their convenience and view a co-op update, receive annual election results, and submit for a $20 meeting attendance energy credit.

MEDIA RELEASE__Wilson Sporting Goods is inviting the surrounding communities together for a meaningful day of movement, fun, and awareness. On Saturday, May 9, 2026, Wilson will host a community 5K Run/Walk and Family Event in partnership with Autism Speaks. While there is no cost to attend or participate, donations are encouraged, with all proceeds going directly to Autism Speaks.

MEDIA RELEASE__The Village of Bluffton, will begin its bi-annual fire hydrant flushing program on Monday, April 13, which is expected to last for approximately two weeks.

This important maintenance process helps ensure the integrity of the water system, maintains water quality, and verifies proper operation of fire hydrants throughout the community.

HARROD__The Bluffton High School softball team defeated local rival Allen East 6-2 in the Northwest Conference lidlifter on Thursday, April 9.

Bluffton led 3-1 after four innings, then clinched the victory with a three-run sixth.

The Pirate girls improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with the rivalry road win. AE dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in NWC play after the defeat.

HARROD __The Bluffton High School baseball team lost to backyard rival Allen East 11-0 in the Northwest Conference opener on Thursday, April 9.

The Pirates did not get a hit in the run-rule shortened, five-inning affair.

Bluffton dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in NWC play with the defeat.

AE improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the NWC after the win

Caleb Lybarger struck out 10 Pirates and walked six Pirates over five frames to earn the shortened no-hit win.

VAN WERT__The visiting Bluffton High School boys tennis team soundly defeated Van Wert 4-1 on Thursday evening, April 9.

The Pirates improved to 4-1 with the win, while VW dropped to 0-2 after the defeat. Bluffton won its four matches by a 48-2 count in games, and 8-0 in sets.

Bluffton junior Braydon McClure lost 7-5, 6-3 at first singles.  

Senior Hudson Phillips cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at second singles.

Sophomore Toby Yarnell won decisively at third singles by a 6-1, 6-0 count.

MEDIA RELEASE__Join The Swiss Community Historical Society for a sneak peek at the updated P.B. Amstutz book Historical Events of the Mennonite Settlement in Allen and Putnam Counties, Ohio, written in 1925.  

Bluffton historian Fred Steiner will give an update on an expanded version, Our Swiss Story, to be published in late spring 2026.  

Steiner has been researching the non-Mennonite families of The Settlement known as the Swiss Reformed. Several families will be featured, plus more stories from the period.

Award for faith-based leadership development

MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton University has been awarded a $60,000 grant from the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) through the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) to support programming that prepares students for leadership in communities of faith.

The two-year grant, titled Fostering Leadership for Communities of Faith, will be used from May 1, 2026, through April 30, 2028, to develop and strengthen initiatives that help students explore and pursue leadership roles in faith-based settings.
