Virgil Allgire 1922-2012
Virgil D. Allgire, 89, of Rockport died at 5:20 p.m., June 10, 2012, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Lima to Carl and Amanda Leuenberger Allgire. On June 2, 1946, he married Vera M. Burkholder and she preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2002.
Mr. Allgire retired from Sheller Globe, Lima after 28 years. He also worked for Labor Local 329 for 10 years and was a farmer. He was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton, where he had been Sunday School superintendent and taught the Sunday School lessons at Mennonite Memorial Home. He had been a member of Gideons International. He was a graduate of Beaverdam High School and was a WWII Army Veteran.
Survivors include a son, Michael (Ruby) Allgire of Columbus Grove, a daughter, Susan Hawk of Columbus Grove, seven grandchildren, Christopher (Cassie) Snyder, Joe Snyder, Amanda (Tim) Basinger, Annalisa (Eric Lackey) Lyons, Shawn (Jennifer) Allgire, Steven (Allison) Hawk, Shaun (Stacy) Hawk, and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Allgire and a son-in-law, Michael Hawk.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Rev. Dick Potter and Rev. Charles Warren will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton.
