Groves Heritage and Bears now open; special event on Saturday
Groves Bears is now open, better stated, re-opened for business.
After a change in ownership, the teddy bear and antique store at 204 N. Main St., has officially reopened as Groves Heritage and Bear store, according to Eric DeWitt, store manager. Chris Honeyman is co-manager. The new owner is Dr. James Gideon.
In celebration of its re-opening the shop has a Steiff event on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A special Steiff program takes place at noon.
Dick Frantz, U.S. Steiff archivist and author of “The Readers Service for the Steiff Club Companion, will be at the store to appraise Steiff bears owned by collectors.
He has appeared on Martha Stewart Living, “Antiques in the Attic,” and on QVC.
The event will also include refreshments and chance to win a door prize, according to DeWitt.
With the reopening of the store, DeWitt said that the business is moving into more heritage antiques, including furniture and nicer older items.
Concerning Steiff bears, DeWitt said that fall and holiday 2014 Steiff items are now in stock.
Two new pieces to Steiff Club members include:
• 2014 Steiff Club Limited Edition bear, Chestnut
• Bert, the 2014 Event Bear
Store hours are Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
