New owners for Fortman Insurance, and company stays in the family
Jonathan Fortman and Zachary Fortman, sons of John and Catherine Fortman, recently purchased the Ottawa and Bluffton businesses of Fortman Insurance Services.
Company founders, John and Catherine, will continue to stay active in the business.
John Fortman started Fortman Insurance Services in November 1978, and his wife, Catherine, joined him in 1982.
After leasing buildings in downtown Ottawa, the company relocated to the Westrick Realty building. In 1991, Fortman’s built its current office on State Route 65, Ottawa. A 2004 addition doubled the size of the building.
On July 1, 2011, Fortman opened its second office at 115 N. Main St., Bluffton. They have four licensed agents working from the Bluffton office.
Jonathan Fortman joined the business in 2003, and is a licensed health and life agent. He works with individuals and businesses and assists with their group medical insurance and ancillary coverages.
Fortman’s health and life agents are Laurie Basinger, Kathy Green, Tammy Evans, Megan Hohman, Ruth Ann Bair, Nichole Schroeder and Catherine Fortman.
Zachary Fortman joined the business in 2010 as a licensed property and casualty agent. Other property and casualty agents are John Fortman, Pam Eickholt, Amy Baker, Marla Santomieri, Nancy Scalf, Betty Wagner and Rachel Miller.
Fortman Insurance Services specializes in: farm, home, renter's, vehicle, commercial, Medicare products, life, individual and group health and ancillary coverages.
Over the last 37 years, Fortman Insurance has grown to l6 licensed agents. All agents reside in and around the Ottawa and the Bluffton area.
Fortman Insurance is very community involved with the American Cancer Society, United Way and other projects.
They company will soon be holding its 9th annual corn hole tournament, benefitting the United Way. Other fundraisers include Relay for Life/American Cancer Society.

Besides all four Fortmans still working in the business, the firm continues to grow and add new staff and team members. Fortman Insurance Services now have 16 licensed agents.
