Prescription drug "take back" program coming here
A prescription drug take back program is coming to Bluffton.
Bluffton’s police will soon offer a safe and secure medication disposal location for residents.
Ryan Burkholder, Bluffton police chief, told council members on Monday that the department is working with a Rite Aid Grant Funded program. Through it, a medication disposal receptacle will be located in the second floor lobby of the town hall. That lobby is located on the floor of the police department.
“The receptacle should arrive at the end of May,” said Burkholder. Residents may use it to safely dispose of prescription drugs that are no long used.
Burkholder said that residents may deposit loose tablets in the receptacle. Representatives of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will retrieve the medication periodically.
“The idea behind the program is to keep our community safe and keep our children safe by providing a proper disposal option for unused household drugs,” he said.
