Barry Archer active in many Harrod community activities
Barry Allen Archer, 79, died on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, at 12:37 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1939, in Auglaize Township, Ohio, to Raymond Forest “Buss” and Anna Elizabeth (Binkley) Archer who preceded him in death. On Sept. 16, 1962 Barry married Suzanne McPheron and she survives in Harrod.
Barry retired from Proctor & Gamble in 1996 after working 25 years as a Process Technician & Shipping Technician. Barry was a member of the Harrod United Methodist Church, Harrod. He was a lifetime resident of Auglaize Township, Harrod. He was a Lifetime member and founding member of the Auglaize Township Historical Society. He was one of the original members that help to build the Veterans Memorial Park and the Railroad Park in Harrod.
He was a graduate of Lima Senior High School in 1957. He was a member of the Allen County Farm Bureau Council #27; Former member of the Allen East Young Farmers. Barry was a US Air Force Veteran who served as an A/1C Flight Engineer; 322 Air Division; 11th Troop Carrier Squadron Combat Cargo; Dreux, France from 1957 to 1961.
Also surviving are two sons: Brian (Kerri) Archer of Arlington and Patrick (Mary) Archer of Ada; a daughter, Andrea (Dennis) Ellerbrock of Bluffton;10 grandchildren: Erin (Matt) Jones, Dennis “Bud” (Shanon Gallagher) Ellerbrock, Dylan (Sieara Osborne) Ellerbrock, Greta (Cody) Cline, Drew (Sara Lininger) Crabtree, Ian Crabtree, Madison Archer, Luke Archer, Colt Archer and Elizabeth Archer; one great grandson, Calvin Cline; and special family friends: Greg and Rebecca DeCoursey, and Alleysen and Emily DeCoursey.
Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Charles Fuerstenau officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Auglaize Township Historical Society and/or Harrod Fire & Rescue Squad and/or Second Chance Trust Fund.
