Pirate boys tame Mustangs

The host Bluffton boys soccer team shut out backyard rival Allen East 5-0 in a Northwest Conference match Monday night at Steinmetz Field.

Bluffton improved to 7-2-1 and 2-0 in the NWC with the whitewash victory. The Mustangs fell to 1-6-1 and 0-2-1 in league play after suffering the defeat.

Pirate Kaden Basil scored the first goal just 2:25 into the match off an assist by Jude Spallinger. 

Basil then scored again unassisted at the 9:11 mark to provide a 2-0 lead. Just 3:01 later, Theo Andreas found the back of the net on another Spallinger assist to give the Pirates a three-goal cushion.

At the 18:20 mark, Ethan Oglesbee tallied a goal from an Andreas feed to give Bluffton a comfortable 4-0 margin heading to intermission.

The final goal was netted just 31 seconds into the second half by Jack Brauen from Andreas.

Andreas registered one goal and two assists, while Basil scored twice. Spallinger contributed two assists.

Bluffton put 10 of its 26 shots on goal. AE was limited to just one shot by the Pirate defense.

Pirate keeper Eli Staton did not have to make a save in goal.

The Pirates play at local league foe Ada (2-4-3, 0-1-1 NWC) Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. Bluffton puts their 32-match NWC win streak on the line as they continue pursuit of a seventh straight conference title.
