Bluffton Senior Center activities and opportunities in May

CORRECTION: Day bus trips are coordinated by Debbie Klingler.

Spoiler alert: we're going to provide you with some but not all of the May news from the Bluffton Senior Center, 132. N. Main St. Each month, director Tonya Meyer sends members a preview of what's happening at the center:

"Sun, rain, wind, flowers, spring is in the air. We will soon have graduation parties to go to and before you know it, summer picnics. Remember, when the weather is bad or you just need a place to go to get out of your house, we are up and running with a full schedule of activities. Except on May 30 when we will be closed for Memorial Day. You will find me at the cemetery on that day."

MONTHLY DINNER MEETING

At 6 p.m. on Monday, May 9, Pandora Lunch Box will cater a meal at the center with baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, roll and layered dessert. Cost is $10.00 and reservations need to be made by May 4. MC: Pat Basinger PROGRAM: Richard Bucher's Brass Group.

HOBBY CENTER

Val Simmons is sharing her collection of pictures of Alaska. Members can volunteer to provide a collection, art work or hobby.

COMMUNTIY MEALS

  • May 5 served by Trinity United Methodist Church.
  • May 19 served by Ebenezer Mennonite Church.

Meals are free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. A donation is taken to benefit the local food pantry. All meals are served in person at 6 p.m. While the pandemic persists, carry out will be available upon request but you must come inside to get the carry out meals.

VOLUNTEER INVITATION

Volunteers can help keep the Senior Center open on Saturdays for shoppers and members. The center is looking for people who would be willing to work one Saturday a month or be a substitute worker. The duties would include running the cash register, answering the phone, taking money for trips and answering questions about the center. If interested, talk to Tonya or Deb Beer.

EVENTS CALENDAR

The center has a busy calendar of regular events including bingo, bridge, crafts, dances, dominoes, dulcimers, euchre, exercise classes, OVAL (Our Version of Adult Learning), and square dancing.

BUS TRIPS

Day and extended bus trips are coordinated by Tonya Meyer and Debbie Klingler.
