Pirate girls bowling results at Feb. 12 sectionals

NAPOLEON__The Bluffton High school girls bowling team completed its first varsity season by competing in the Div. II sectional tournament hosted by Napoleon at the River City Bowl-a-Way Lanes on Thursday, February 12.
The Pirate girls finished in last place at the 13-team event.
“It is always sad when a season comes to the end, but the ladies really put in a strong performance today,” said head coach Ben Nye. “We have a solid group.”
Host Napoleon won the sectional by knocking down a total of 3,790 pins. They tallied 2,673 pins in the three-game opening series, then added 1,117 more in six Baker Games.
Bryan finished second with 3,515 pins, followed by Liberty Center (3,207) and Patrick Henry (3,064) in fourth. Only the top four teams qualified for the district tournament next week.
Bluffton tallied a 478-479-518=1,475 opening series total. In the Baker Series, the Pirates rolled games of 127-86-85-73-95-96 to total 562 pins. Overall, the Pirates knocked down 2,037 pins.
Bluffton finished just 10 pins behind 12th-place Horizon Science Academy, and 23 in back of 11th-place Miller City.
Junior Laney Kiene bowled a 128-151-160=439 three-game opening set to pace the Pirates. She finished 20th in the 67-player field.
Freshman Charlotte Kidd rolled a 132-125-129=386 series to come in 35th.
Freshman Elana Navarro bowled a 107-120-136=363 set and ended up 38th.
Sophomore Natalie Richards rolled a 111-83-93=287 series to finish 54th.
Napoleon junior Brenna Massie finished first in the tournament with a series total of 204-196-232=632.
The average score per game for the field was 133.2. The Pirate girls averaged 122.9 pins per game.
“With the first-ever girls season in the books, I know we have a great foundation for the future,” Nye summed up. “I am already excited to grow the team next year.”
