Former Bluffton College art professor Judith Greavu had one of her art pieces curated into the exhibition, “100x100 | 100 Sculptors, 100 Sculptures: A Survey of Contemporary Sculpture from the Midwest” at The Ella Sharp Museum in Michigan.
The 100 Sculptors, 100 Sculptures show is the third installment of a 30-year project for curator Ken Thompson in which he undertook a comprehensive look at sculpture being made at this time in the Midwest. The premise for this exhibit was to seek out a diverse group of 100 sculptors that represented as many approaches to sculpture as possible.
To the question, ““Why did you start baking hickory nut pies?” pie-baker Oliver Lugibihl replied, “I probably didn’t have any pecans.”
Then came a grin.
The grin occurred between his breaking a jumbo Moser egg and measuring out some Watkins vanilla, which he insists he likes better than other vanilla, “because of its stronger flavor.”

Known as the hickory nut pie man, Icon viewers have a rare, seasonal opportunity to purchase one his masterpiece pies on Friday.
Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio Service Group will hold its annual Thanksgiving bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, in the Mennonite Memorial Home lobby, 410 W. Elm St.
The sale includes cinnamon rolls, pies, cakes, cookies and breads, just in time for your Thanksgiving holiday entertaining.
Bluffton seventh grader Ellie Nickel is the first place winner in this year's Bluffton Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest, according to Coleen Lazar, Lions president.
Second place winner is Lauren Swartzlander. Third place winner is Wes Brauen.
Ellie's poster advances to the district level to be judged against poster winners from across northwestern Ohio. Last year’s Bluffton winner, Luisa Dunlap, was also the Lions district winner.
Bluffton's winners were announced at the Lions Club luncheon on Nov. 15.
The Icon caught up with Mitchell Ault, freshman at Walsh University, and quarterback on its football team. Mitchell holds Bluffton High School records with most career passing yards (5,645), most career completions (380/674), and most career TD passes (60).
That declarations made the rounds in Bluffton school district households this week. The elementary honor roll, released today, completes the three honor rolls for the first quarter of the 2016-17 school year.
