Bluffton boys tame Wildcats

BLUFFTON - Shooting well from three-point territory, homestanding Bluffton posted a methodical 64-56 victory over winless Kenton in a non-conference boys basketball matchup Saturday night.
The Pirates led 23-21 after a high-scoring the first period. Trey Boblitt enjoyed a monster quarter as he canned four three-point goals and tallied 14 points.
Bluffton led 35-31 at intermission and Boblitt added six more markers in the second stanza.
Carson Soper picked up the slack in the second half by scoring 11 points as the Pirates outscored the Wildcats 29-25 after intermission.
Bluffton's record improved to 8-12 after the victory. Kenton fell to 0-14 with the defeat.

Boblitt led Bluffton with 26 points on the strength of six treys. Soper contributed 16 points, while Trenton Donley netted 10.
Jayden Cornell topped Kenton with 23 points. He scored 10 first-period points and tallied 15 in the first half to keep Kenton close. Jake Eversole added 16 markers.
The Pirates hit 10 shots from inside the arc, and drained 11 baskets from three-point territory. Bluffton converted 11 of 17 attempts (65 percent) from the charity stripe.
Kenton connected on 20 total baskets, one less than Bluffton made. The Wildcats canned 13 two-point goals and sank seven trifectas.
The Wildcats converted nine of 15 attempts from the charity stripe (60 percent).
Bluffton committed 19 turnovers, while the Wildcats were guilty of 10 miscues.
The Pirates are now 6-4 at home this season.

The Pirates (2-8 road) visit Van Buren (2-18) Tuesday, Feb. 16 in another non-league bout. The Black Knights snapped a 10-game losing skid by upsetting a 16-5 Kalida club 45-35 Saturday night.
Bluffton (1-6 NWC) concludes its regular season at home vs. league rival Delphos Jefferson (7-12, 4-3 NWC) Friday, Feb. 19. DJ defeated arch-rival Spencerville in overtime 66-62 this past Friday night.
The Pirates entertain Defiance Tinora (4-10) in Div. III sectional first round play Feb. 24.
