Girls' tennis: Two more wins in three days
By Ron Geiser
Two victories in three days have lifted the Bluffton High School girls tennis team to a 13-2 dual match record, assuring the Pirates of their best percentage season in history.
Coach Jesse Sensenig's netters disposed of Archbold 4-1 last Saturday morning and followed that up with a 3-2 edging of Bath Monday, both wins on the road.
Ashlin Gable, Emily Sprague and Shannon Koch racked up easy wins at Archbold, as did the No. 2 doubles team of Rachel Sehlhorst and Bronwyn Greer. Kristi Geiser and Shaye Liddick dropped their No. 1 doubles match.
Geiser captured her 60th career win (combined singles and doubles) at Bath, scoring straight set wins at No. 1 singles, while Koch won in straight sets at No. 2. Greer lost a close match at No. 3 singles.
Gable and Sprague warmed up for sectional action by taking two sets at No. 1 doubles, while Sehlhorst and Morgan Pugsley lost at No. 2. It was Bluffton's fifth 3-2 win of the season. Sprague, a junior, has been involved with 50 wins in her career.
Van Wert, an upper division Western Buckeye League team, invades Harmon Field Courts for the season finale today (Tuesday).
