Hannah Chappell-Dick earned a return trip Saturday's finals of the 1500m at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The Eastern Mennonite All-American finished second in her heat of the 1500m to punch an automatic qualifier ticket to the finals.

She ran in the front half of the 11-woman pack before pulling away with leader Emily Gapinski of St. Thomas (Minnesota) to clock a time of 4:34.03. Her best time this season is 4:28.62. Gapinski crossed in 4:33.75.

Janet Kay (Binkley) Sweigart, 73, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, in her sleep.

She was born on Aug. 24, 1942, in Lima, Ohio, to  Charles “Big Ed” and Mildred (Garrison) Binkley. Both parents have preceded her in death. She married John A. “Jack” Sweigart, Jr. on Sept. 1, 1963. Her husband preceded her in death in 2009.

Janet retired from Bluffton Hospital as an ER nurse. She graduated from Lima Memorial School of nursing and had worked on the 1st intensive care unit at Lima Memorial Hospital. She had also worked as an oncology nurse for Dr. Sharon Cole.

An adult softball league is forming for summer play. Games are Mondays or Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from July 11 to Aug. 17 at the Bluffton village park.

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for its summer adult coed sand volleyball league, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

The five-week season includes matches each Tuesday in June from 7 and 8 p.m. at the Bluffton University sand courts on Rosenberger Drive.

Each team must have at least three women on the court at all times. Best of three matches wins and team members must be 18 as of June 1. Registration is $150 per team.

Lucille Bucher, 94, died May 24, 2016, at 6:10 p.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Lucille was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Pandora to the late Albert and Sarah (Hilty) Burry.  On Feb. 19, 1942, she married Victor Bucher who preceded her in death on June 11, 2006.

Hey, parents…want some parenting tips?

Bluffton Public Library will offer “ACT – Raising Safe Kids Parenting Workshop,” = this summer.

The free workshops are for parents, guardians and other adults who raise youth from birth to age 8.

Registration is required and the entire series continues over nine sessions, each on Saturday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in June, July and August.

Workshop dates are:
• June 11, 18 and 25
• July 16, 23 and 30
• August 6, 13 and 20

This is part of the Icon’s features on events taking place in Bluffton during the month of June.

The 49th Bluffton Festival of Wheels cruise-in, sponsored by the Bluffton Lions  hits Main Street  on Friday, June 17.

The event is open to antique cars, classic cars, trucks, tractors, golf carts, fire engines, motorcycles and Cushmans.

This year’s show opens for parking at 2 p.m. and registration for vehicles is from 2 to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

Two community meals take place in June at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St. Those meals are Thursday, June 2, provided by English Lutheran Church, and Thursday, June 16, provided by First Mennonite Church.

Community meals are free and open to the public and are coordinated by the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association. Persons attending may contribute canned food items for the Bluffton food pantry.

Bluffton Senior Citizens will hold its June meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, June 13, at the Senior Center, 132 N. Main St.

The program is by Lynn LaRue, a new member of the Association, who will entertain members on the harmonica.

The meal is catered by the St. John's United Church of Christ. Tickets are $8.50 each and must be purchased by June 8 at the center.
