Cassidy Posey named to all-tourney team
The Bluffton University volleyball team saw its 2020-21 season come to a close at Lexington on Friday, Feb. 26. The Beavers ran into a #3-ranked Transylvania University team that was on a mission and the Pioneers would not be denied. Bluffton finished 15-8, while Transy moves into the finals with a 14-1 mark.
Five Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) kills had Bluffton up 6-5 early in the first set before Transy used a 13-3 jag to put set one on ice (18-9). The visitors rolled to a 12-4 advantage in the second set, but Transy chipped away, finally knotting it at 17-17. An 8-2 Pioneer finish gave the home team a 2-0 edge heading into the clinching set. Bluffton fell behind early and was not able to get over the hump in the final set as Transy had it going at every level en route to the 25-19 victory and three-set sweep.
Bower led the Beavers with eight kills, while Cassidy Posey (Paulding) and Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) both finished with six spikes. Sophomore Elle Price (Findlay) and Noel Ufferman (Marysville/Fairbanks) handed out 13 and 12 assists, respectively.
Putting up double digits with a team-high 10 digs was sophomore Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork). Bower picked up nine digs, while Kleman and Chelsey Taylor (Hicksville) chipped in with nine apiece. Posey and Campbell both tallied two blocks for the visitors.
Bluffton's season which started over six months ago came to its conclusion at Transylvania on Friday. The Pioneers will host the Franklin-MSJ winner on Sunday afternoon in the Beck Center. Check the Bluffton website next week for the All-Heartland Conference selections.
