CDC updates guidance on MMR vaccination
Provided by Allen County Public Health
Due to the ongoing measles outbreaks across the country and around the globe, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated their guidance for vaccination for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) for individuals less than 12 months old who are at high risk of exposure to measles.
MMR vaccine can be given to children as young as 6 months of age who are at high risk of exposure such as during international travel or travel to a community where an outbreak has been declared.
However, doses given BEFORE 12 months of age cannot be counted toward the 2-dose series for MMR. Allen County is not considered to be in a community outbreak. Older children, adolescents and adults who are not immune to measles, mumps and rubella may also require vaccination. For more information, please consult your healthcare provider.
The MMR vaccine is available at Allen County Public Health by appointment by calling 419-228-4457. MMR vaccines are also available at retail pharmacies and physicians’ offices in the county.
