Where were you when the sun blinked at 2:28 p.m.?

Many Icon viewers were wearing funny dark glasses and staring into space. Those who did have a story to tell their grandchildren. Bluffton was at 85 percent coverage of the great solar eclipse of 2017.

While not like a total eclipse, it was a very noticible afternoon.

At State Route 103

Interstate 75 northbound near Bluffton will be reduced to one lane through the work zone on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from approximately 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bridge deck repair. Work is being performed by the ODOT Hancock County maintenance garage.

During the repair, the entrance ramp from state Route 103 to northbound Interstate 75 will be closed. Traffic detoured east on state Route 103 and state Route 235 back to Interstate 75 northbound

The Icon spotted VAMIO1 (that's a zero one) on a silver Mazda Protege 5 on the ONU campus. It's a Hardin County plate.

It's the Great Solar Eclipse of the 21st century

On Monday Bluffton residents will be on the edge of an eclipse of the sun.

The peak time for the solar eclipse in our area is at approximately 2:28 p.m.

In Ada, thee Ohio Northern University observatory will be open to the public  from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30. The observatory is located on the west side of campus, off of Lincoln Avenue and near the baseball field.

First four Senior Center programs featured in "Our Version of Adult Learning"

• Found treasures from Bluffton
• How the ear works
• Pottery demonstration
• Trip to Roscoe Village

These are the first four programs on this fall’s Bluffton Senior Citizens Center “Our Version of Adult Learning,” (OVAL) schedule.

Tonya Meyer, association director, announced OVAL’s weekly schedule of programs for September and October.

Here’s the schedule:

• Monday, Sept. 18 – 9:30 a.m. - Dennis Morrison presents “Found treasures from Bluffton.”

Bridge Bereavement Services is offering a “Sew Many Memories” grief support program on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Birchaven Village, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay. 

The Sept. 21 session will be for planning purposes and the Sept. 30 session will be used for sewing. This program will offer participants the opportunity to turn their loved one’s clothing into a keepsake.
