Naval Corp of Engineers offers solution to National Quarry problem
A solution may be at hand for the water seepage problem in the National Quarry (check here for story).
The Naval Corp of Engineers announced plans to will send a project crew to Bluffton next week. That crew will conduct a Seepage Document Projection Analysis (SDPA). One probable solution is to fill the seam with recycled Styrofoam. This water absorbent man-made product has a half-life of 500 years.
There is enough recycled Styrofoam in the United States to fill 10,000 freight train hopper cars, according to conservative estimates. That availability makes the “fix” very financially affordable.
In the meantime, Styrofoam collections boxes will be placed in several locations around the community for persons interested in donating to the project.
