April 2024 programs and services at Bluffton Public Library
The Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main, will be closed Monday April 8, 2024 due to the eclipse.
April 2024 at the Bluffton Public Library is abuzz with programs and a celebration of National Library Week. Subject matter includes the total solar elclipse, watercolors, local history, health, live music, chilling and chess. Some programs require advance registration, marked (R).
Eclipse Presentation with Robert Antibus (R) will be held Tue., April 2 @ 6:00 p.m. Robert Antibus, emeritus professor of biology (Bluffton University) will present on all things eclipse, complete with slides and time for questions. Open to everyone. (Children to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) Registration is required as space is limited.
Noon Book Group (R) meets Wed., April 3 to discuss The Art Thief, joined by author Michael Finkel via Zoom. On Wed., May 1, the group will discuss The Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See. Stop by the library front desk to register and pick up the book!
National Library Week - April 7-13: The theme for National Library Week 2024 is, “Ready, Set, Library!,” promoting the idea that in our always-online world, libraries give us a green light to something truly special: a place to connect with others, learn new skills, and focus on what matters most. Get ready to explore, become inspired, and connect with your library this National Library Week. Libraries are there for you, all the way to the finish line.
Mobile Health Clinic: The next Mobile Health Clinic will be on Wed., April 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All services are provided by individuals with the Ohio Northern University Healthwise program. This clinic includes free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol (please fast for 12 hours to participate in cholesterol or blood sugar screening) and osteoporosis. Participants may speak with ONU Healthwise students and staff about their results or concerns, and even receive referrals to area doctors.
Watercolor Workshop: Tree Frog (R)($) will be held Thurs., April 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Local artist Jeanne Beutler will teach on the lower level of the library. Walk away with your own watercolor piece of art, complete with mat! There is a $10 supply fee at the door (cash only please), and advance registration is required as space is limited. Open to adults and teens, and children with an accompanying adult.
Friends of the Library Spring Tea will be held Thursday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the Richland Room in the lower level of the Library. Come enjoy guest speaker, Local author, Perry Bush and participate in our Silent Auction of interesting books and other items. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Bluffton Public Library. All proceeds benefit the Bluffton Public Library.
Hummin' & Strummin' Song Circle: meets at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays when the library is open. (Check the library calendar or website.) This is a relaxed, song-circle style music session and anyone is welcome to join or listen in. Bring your instrument, voice, or listening ears!
Spring Storytime Baby, Pre-K, and Family Storytimes! Join us for a time of stories, games, crafts, and lots of fun while developing early literacy skills! Registration is required.
Playgroup is back! Fridays at 10 a.m. Make a playdate and the library will provide the space and toys! No registration required.
Chill Zone On Monday afternoons after school at 3:30 p.m. Chill Zone is a safe space for tweens and teens to hang out at the library. Anyone in grades 6-12 is welcome to join. Activities include gaming, socializing, themed events, and crafting. Snacks are provided. No registration required.
Open Chess on Tuesdays! The library has an area designated on the Main Floor for open chess from 5:30-7:30 p.m every Tuesday the library is open. Bring your own board or use one of the library’s! All ages are welcome!
