Dr.Ignacio Sarmina, M.D., will join Dr. Craig Nicholson at Mercy Health–St. Rita’s Urology at 770 West High St., Suite 350 Lima.

Dr. Sarmina received his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of Ohio in Toledo. He completed his urology residency, surgery residency and research fellow at the University Hospitals of Cleveland in Cleveland.

He is accepting new patients and one can make an appointment at 419-228-8950.

Ramp at SR 103 northbound will close

Guardrail, bridge work to affect Interstate 75 at Bluffton this week. The ramp at state Route 103 northbound will close for a time during the work.

Interstate 75 and state Route 103, Bluffton, will be affected as follows. Work is being performed by the ODOT roadway services department:

• I-75 southbound at state Route 103 will be restricted to one lane through the work zone during guardrail repair on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Tj Mill and Brianna Gillig

Two women from Bluffton University earned All-Heartland Conference honors when the hardware was delivered following the 2018-19 season. Junior Tj Mills(Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) and Brianna Gillig (New Riegel) were both recognized by the HCAC coaches for their work on the hardcourt.

Mills led the Beavers with 14.8 PPG, 95 assists and 50 steals. She collected Second Team All-HCAC recognition after earning honorable mention last season and HCAC Freshman of the Year honors following the 2016-17 campaign.

Club closure party after 63 years of continuous gardening enjoyment

Past and present members of the Bluffton Garden Study Club are invited to it closure party after 63 years of continuous gardening enjoyment. 

"We will be gathering at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Patio Room at Maple Crest," said Jenny Pilarowski.

There will be “garden” cake refreshments to enjoy as well as a display of minutes, treasurer’s reports and past program booklets plus any of your own mementoes you would like to share.

Arrangements have been made to archive the records of the organization at the Bluffton Public Library.

Carrie Philips, archives and special collections librarian at Bluffton University, will present “‘We Are Still Compelled…’: Artifacts of Bluffton’s World War I Experience” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, in the Kreider Room of Marbeck Center. 

Phillips will provide an overview of an exhibit she is curating at Musselman Library titled “Of Bronze and Bravery: Local Voices of Conscience” that features the selected works of artist John Peter Klassen, with archival documents and artifacts illustrating the Bluffton College experience in the Great War.

And, earn credits for advanced degrees

Bluffton University is one of just five universities in the state approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to provide coursework and experiences for an alternative pathway to teaching for professionals who later felt the call to the classroom.

The Alternative Resident Educator Institute, which consists of six courses (seven for the intervention specialist license) can be completed in classes on Bluffton’s campus and in just one semester.

On Feb. 19 Jefferson Street property owners had a first-hand look at the street improvement project that comes their way this summer.

The project includes a water main replacement scheduled for May 20 to July 1, followed by major street improvements scheduled for July 1 to Oct. 25.

The recycling totes on the east side of Bluffton were not able to be picked up because of equipment problems from Republic, according to Jesse Blackburn, village administrator.

He said that Republic will return tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 26) to collect these totes.
