Here's the 1982-83 Bluffton High School boys' basketball team, Northwest Conference runner-up.

At 17-5 this team had the most wins of any BHS boys' team between 1946-47 (18 wins) and 1997-98 (17 wins).

The Bluffton University women's basketball team lost a hard-fought battle against the Hanover Panthers by the score of 64-59 on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The loss ended Bluffton's season as the Beavers finished 9-17 overall and 7-11 in HCAC play. The #3 seed Hanover women advance to play #2 seed Rose-Hulman Friday night at Transylvania in the semifinals of the HCAC tournament.

Portions of Ada without power and late Sunday evening some power lines were down

FROM THE ADA ICON - Major electrical power outages are causing disruptions in Ada this morning (Monday, Feb. 25).

Portions of the village are without power and late Sunday evening power lines were down on the 500 block of East Lincoln. Those lines have since been secured but power was not able to be restored until the wiinds subsided, according to a Facebook announcement by the Ada police department.

Ada schools are closed due to lack of power. In addition, the following message was released by the village at 8:39 a.m.:

The Bluffton University men's basketball team dropped a 69-49 decision to Hanover in the semifinals of the Heartland Conference Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Top seed and host Hanover College played the Transylvania-Franklin winner for the HCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tourney on Sunday.

Bluffton wrapped up its season with a school-record tying 18-9 mark, while the Panthers improved to 20-6 on the season.

March 4 and March 18 at Bluffton Senior Citizens Center

Two Our Version of Adult Learning (OVAL) classes are set for March at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Thoses classes follow:

Monday, March 4, 10 a.m. – Corwin Croy presents “Biking from Bridge to Bridge.” He has biked from a 100-year-old bridge in New Bremen to a similar one near Pandora. His talk includes history, travel and adventures in biking.

Monday, March 18, 10 a.m. – Bruce Chesser presents a pottery demonstration. He brings a potter’s wheel and shows how to throw a pot..

March 3 Event: "Conscience, Scripture and Patriotism: The Church of the Brethren and the Crisis of the Great War" by William Kostlevy, Brethren Historical Library and Archives, 4 p.m., Kreider Room, Marbeck Center. 

March 10 Event: "'We Are Still Compelled': Artifacts of Bluffton's World War I Experience, Carrie Phillips, Bluffton University archives, 4 p.m., Kreider Room, Marbeck Center.

Mercy Health – St. Rita’s will be partnering with OhioMeansJobs to host a Career Fair on Friday, March 1,  from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 718 W. Market St., Lima.

Village of Bluffton income tax filing information

It’s tax time again. Here is information concerning filings of 2018 Village of Bluffton income tax returns, provided by the village tax administrator.

New this year
If you owe more than $200 in income tax to the Village of Bluffton at the time of filing your 2018 return, you are required by law to make Estimated Tax payments towards your 2019 return.

Earns a "superior" rating at OMEA contest

The Bluffton High School String Orchestra earned a "Superior" rating at the Ohio Music Education Association's state orchestra contest on Feb. 22 at Perrysburg High School.

The orchestra performed "Forever Joyful" by Brian Balmages, "Ruminations" by Sean O'Loughlin and "Storm the Gates" by Alan Lee Silva.

The orchestra is under the direction of Rachael E. Lewis and assisted by Debb Herr.
