BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision at Olivet in the 2016 season opener for both squads. The Beavers stand 0-1, while Olivet opens its campaign at 1-0.

Olivet netted four tallies during a 17-minute span late in the first half before tacking on two more scores after the break. It all added up to a 6-0 shutout for the home team.

Sixteen area non-profit organizations received shares of proceeds from this summer’s Bluffton American Legion 7th annual charitable golf scramble.

That event generated over $7,000. Co-chair the golf outing were Fred Arnold and Sam Reineke.

Five faculty members are joining the Bluffton University community this academic year along with more than 20 new staff members and graduate assistants.
 
New faculty for the 2016-17 academic year are Christina Bender, speech language pathology and audiology; Melissa Green, business; Howard Keim, business; Jamie Lyn Smith, English; and Sherri Winegardner, nursing.

Beth Huffman will speak during the 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7, meeting of the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church Friendship Circle, 300 N. Main St., Mt. Cory.

Huffman is a retired English teacher from Columbus Grove and is an inspirational speaker and author.

In the past six years, she has spoken to well over a thousand people whose audiences include civic organizations, women’s groups, professional organizations and church groups.
